church people are everywhere
I was in the hospital this afternoon to pray for our member whose dad is in critical condition. While waiting for our turn to enter the ICU, a doctor pass by and stopped and looked intently on me. He stared for around 3 seconds and smiled. He then said the 2 magic words I commonly hear from people who I think I know or knows me:
"Pastor..................Victory?"
Tonight I dated my wife in Gateway Cubao. While buying tickets to watch Wolverine I heard 4 girls mention the word .......... "Pastor". Immediately I knew they were from Victory.
I said hi to them and went down to meet my wife who was shopping. While walking a girl waves her hand and nods.
I heard my mind say "Hmmm.....Victory."
The incident reminded me of God. If there are Victory people everywhere - then where can I hide?
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? Psalms 139:7 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. Psalms 139:8 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, Psalms 139:9 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Psalms 139:10

have it your way
I am now in my new found favorite office: BURGERKING.
It is raining so hard in Manila right now that I decided to prepare my sunday message in BurgerKing.
If Burger King was a church it would attract a lot of young people. Why?
BECAUSE THEY ARE INTENTIONAL IN REACHING THE YOUNGER CROWD.
You enter a Burger King establishment and you are greeted with friendly waiters. You see a TV which offers free movie while you eat. If that was not enough - they offer free wifi. But wait there's more - as I was gulping on my meal, a waiter comes and offers me a glass of water.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE......
Right this very moment, somebody is massaging my back as I blog for FREE!!!!

and to add to that: they also don't charge you when you charge your laptop and cellphone.
Burger King knows its crowd. It has studied its target market. It lives by its mission. To let the customer have it his way as long as you eat our burger.
In Burger King - I am valued.
Can people say that about you and your church?
o he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. John 13:4
After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13:5
¶ He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” John 13:6
¶ Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” John 13:7
¶ “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” ¶ Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” John 13:8
¶ “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” John 13:9
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. John 13:12
“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. John 13:13
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. John 13:14
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. John 13:15

PACQUIAO'S BRAND OF CHRISTIANITY
Watching Manny crushed Hatton revealed some things to me that is necessary for a church planter.
1. Study your target. Manny studied Hatton so well that he knew what he needs to do in the ring.

We as Christians must study our culture. We are called to be missionaries. We study the people we reach. We can't be like Hatton who did not know Manny's moves.
2. Have a game plan. Roach and Manny had a game plan.

If you saw how Manny delivered the last blow - it was absolutely stunning! (ask Hatton). hatton was being careful with Manny's right but he didn't see the left coming. Manny knew what to do. Trick Hatton with the right then give him the left.
People we reach out to have a certain mindset how Christians try to proseletize them. They know what to expect with church. They have steroetype the church.
We as a church must have a game plan. Challenge the status quo on how to reach the world. Have a game plan that works.
3. Do the talking in the ring.

Hatton was all talk -" I'll knock Manny out." Mayweather was all talk.
Manny did the talking inside the ring.
Christians for one minute stop talking and start walking the talk.
Love the people. Engage your culture. Stop being religious and get authentic.
People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

MARTIN'S LUPANG HINIRANG AND CHURCH PLANTING
Now to get into a more controversial blog.
Martin Nievera's rendition of Lupang Hinirang has received mixed reviews. Some really really mad and some defending Martin's new rendition of the song.
Poor Martin didn't see this coming.
Now how does church planting and Martin's song connect?
A lot of new church planters and pastors experience the same resistance to change. How do we navigate the rough waters of introducing change in our church?
But before I tell you how here are some facts of life and leadership:
CHANGE IS INEVITABLE. CHANGE IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
Now how do we introduce change?
1. Talk to the influencers. List the church leaders that people follow and sell the CHANGE. Get them to buy in to the CHANGE.
2. Take time. Talk one to one to the people who needs to hear about the CHANGE.
3. Get your staff talking about change in an exciting manner.
4. Some people will leave because of CHANGE. You can't CHANGE that.
5. Raise up new people who would champion CHANGE.
6. Preach CHANGE.
7. Live CHANGE.

sunday rewind

- I missed pacquiao's fight again.
- had our last morning service in New Manila. We would be renovating it to become the HUB for college students in the area. I am excited for the future of our ministry in New Manila.
- our youth workers are doing a great job. Hats off to the PASSION ENGINEER - Bojo and his team for building a thriving youth ministry.
- our 3pm service was half full - maybe because of the Pacquiao fight. This always happens to us. Lots of
parking space in Greenhills, few attendance for our 3pm service, 0 crime rate in the Philippines. Pacquiao should be a national hero.- our 5pm was packed. My wife led worship. Amazing!
- had a great time preaching about the power of the Holy Spirit.
- excited for next week's mother's day.
- Margarita baptized the song BURN. It was the best rendition I have heard ever. As what Paul Pajo would say "WASAK!"
- met new amazing people yesterday.
- Ill be at the Family camp this Wednesday to Friday - looking forward to that!

organized chaos
to be an authentic community - we need to experience friction, chaos and conflict. We can't settle for unspoken matters.
I have had conflicts for the past 1 year and 6 months pastoring the church. Some were handled well, some were terribly handled. It is part of the learning process in building authentic community.
Our staff knows that when we have organized chaos, it is not because we want to attack them but we have the best intentions in mind.
The key for organized chaos is trusting your team. We, as leaders must build a culture of trust that when we correct and rebuke - it is because we have good intentions
Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Proverbs 27:5
